RCI Safety expands to 700 customers globally using ABBYY FlexiCapture for automated form data capture
RCI Safety's behavior-based safety observation system required large volumes of customized forms, but forms were not scannable and had to be entered by hand, making the process slow, expensive, and a barrier to adoption. Pre-designed forms and hand-held apps were tried as alternatives but both presented barriers: hand-helds were not certified for many work environments and static forms required months of programming to modify.
How it works
Common implementation structure
How this type of workflow is generally built, generalized across documented cases — not tied to any one vendor's stack. Click any stage to read what happens there. Specific products that implement these stages appear in “Tools commonly seen” below.
Stage 1 · Customer scans and uploads forms
A customer scans their completed forms and uploads them on a batch basis into RCI Safety's system via the web.

Outcome
FlexiCapture enabled same-day dynamic form creation in 25 languages at 90% accuracy, eliminated manual entry costs and adoption barriers, and helped RCI Safety scale to 700 customers including ten Fortune 500 corporations across 48 countries.
What failed first
RCI Safety tried pre-designed forms and hand-held device apps, but both approaches had significant barriers: hand-helds lacked certification for many industrial work environments, and static pre-designed forms were inflexible and required months of programming for any customization.
